About Me workshop uncovers the deeper parts of you, mirror with no reflection

ABOUT ME

tell the story of you

Finding and discovering yourself with Good Peoples's signature workshop, About Me

know yourself deeply.
love yourself, real hard.
tell it to the world.

This workshop combines self-discovery with concrete writing skills and lessons in visual storytelling, so that you can not only remind yourself what makes you so very special, but also be able to put that into words and photography.

In Level 1, you will learn what makes a written bio stand out from the crowd, and how it can be a tool to describe who you truly are, beyond your education and career accomplishments. Through a series of exercises in introspection, you will further discover what makes you, you – and how you can put this in a succinct paragraph that feels both compelling and authentic.

In Level 2, we will workshop your bio as a group, creating a forum for you to be seen. You will also have a chance to work with a professional portrait photographer to create a portrait in a style that suits your particular needs and future aspirations.

Good People's About Me Level 1 workshop is about your purpose and prose

Level 1:
Purpose & prose

This four-hour workshop will introduce you to the basics of communicating about yourself using words, in both written and spoken formats.

This begins with exercises in understanding yourself and your personal brand – beyond your professional qualifications, but the intangibles that fundamentally attract people to you. We will explore your personal or professional purpose, and what makes you stand apart in your industry or organisation.

We will also cover the essentials of good storytelling – what people are really, actually interested in learning, whether you’re introducing yourself at a panel talk, media interview, a networking event, a dinner party or even a first date.

And finally, you will receive a template for writing a bio about yourself that is succinct, yet packed with character and individuality.

We will also touch upon how photography contributes to your personal image, in ways you may not have considered. Learn how to brief and work with photographers to further showcase yourself.

This is a chance to learn about yourself profoundly, and to connect with what makes you, you – and to learn how to tell that to the rest of the world.

Level 2:
Polishing & photography

Good Peoples's About Me Level 2 is about polishing and photography

In this six-hour workshop, we kick off with a crash course in editing, including tips that can be used in all written communications.

Then, we will look at your relationship to the camera, deciding how you should be working with the lens to tell your story. Through creative and photographic explorations – including a one-to-one photo session with Fotowriting’s Linda Cheung – we will learn about lighting, expressions and angles, but also to see photography as an experience, rather than a destination.

Concurrent to the one-to-one sessions, the group will support each other’s written bios with questions and feedback that allow each participant to go deeper into the storytelling journey, and to share the impactful stories that truly resonate with readers in the information age – the stories that allow your audience to invest in your journey, to root for you, and even cry for you.

This workshop is created for anyone and everyone who wishes to find the stories in each of us that demand to be told. It is also ideal for those who want to feel more comfortable in front of the camera, and who are looking to show the world their truest selves. Besides receiving group feedback on their bios, each participant will also receive two edited and retouched portraits of themselves.

Your Hosts

Christina Ko likes to write about people.

A respected journalist, editor and author, she used to have an enviable magazine job with which she didn't resonate – and now, instead of interviewing celebrities and writing about travel, food and beauty products, she'd like to help you write about yourself with power and personality. Working with a variety of clients ranging from Louis Vuitton and Lane Crawford to the Financial Times and World Health Organization has given Christina the chance to delve deep into how words can pull heartstrings, sway opinions and ultimately, make or break brands.

And she'll show you exactly how to do it, too.

Photographer and host of Good Peoples's signature workshop, About Me, Linda Cheung

Photographer Linda Cheung tells stories of people moving through life, whether as an athlete or accountant, immigrant or iBanker.

She believes movement is how we carry ourselves through the day, and bodies are our common denominator. Stemming from this fascination, Linda has focused on outdoor yoga photography, quietly celebrating the relationship between human and nature. With the same awareness of interconnectedness, Linda also photographs those typically less seen: survivors of sexual assault, the elderly, the drag community, or the differently abled and their caretakers. A proud introvert, Linda curates her portrait sessions as a judgment-free space for her subjects to explore themselves, to share secrets and to be seen.
